180 porch light

My back porch light,
a dim, golden shimmer in the dark,
my beacon in the night,
leads me home,
brings me back to the back door
when my dog and I have
tarried to long in the woods,
darkness catching us gazing at some
stone or bone or paw print in the snow.
I know how much I owe
that back porch glow,
for pointing me
towards safe home and warm.
The little bulb guides well
until its pale glow fades,
when sun rises to
illumen all.
