558 Morning preparations May 20, 2015

Latino migrant workers
mow the lanes between the trees,
the blossoms are past,
apples just beginning to appear.
An early morning yellow school bus
rolls down the orchard road,
carrying the kids to another day.
I drive the old route,
the one I drove for decades,
through the valley to my classroom.
This morning, I’m just the
old guy who subs, sometimes.
Ain’t retirement grand?
All of us,
the students,
the field hand,
the retired teacher,
all getting going on
another day,
like tomorrow, Friday,
then it’s Memorial Day Weekend!!
Then, June, and Prom and Graduation!!!
Summer idle,
then,
Then?
I may know.
Or not.
