560 The Robins of the Round Table June, 2015

The fat,round, Red Robin relaxed,
splashed around in my back yard
bird bath with Reclining Buddha
bathing in the middle.
The Robin hoped on the Buddhas head,
drying his wings, relaxing
like a feathered twin,
chubby, cool, content.

The Flicker flew by,
landing on the cherry tree branch,
just above the bird bath,
making razor sharp squawks
as he pecked at the fruit,
throwing angry threats at the Robin.

The Robin hunched his feathers,
chirped a brave response.
Squawking and chirping continued,
an aviary stand-off until
five of the Robins knights arrived,
landing on the trees surrounding
the now, worried Flicker,
the Robins all menace and strategy.

Flicker, all wisdom and chagrin, winged away,
leaving the Robin King to bathe,
while his Round Robin Knights
protected their Lord and Liege.
