578 Speed bumps March 21, 2016

Mother hated every man she ever loved.
Including me, her only son.
That built some rough speed bumps
on to the road to
matrimonial and parental bliss.
A life time of self defense against
a father who abandoned,
a husband, who had some problems of his own,
finally quit trying to climb her razor wired,
jagged, glassed topped magic marriage mountain
and a son who stood as
best man at his Dads next weddings,
who she, in her deepening senility,
grabbed by his bearded chin and cried,
“You look so much like Him!”
to which he responded,
“Well, it’s either him or the milk man!”
and she, becoming more confused by her forgetting,
began to wonder who
the milk man was,
or her minister,
or her God,
or her father,
or her husband,
or her son,
all of whom
she hated
and loved.
