626 Our Towns Flag 10-13-16 (go to 580 for key word search)

The old flag flying
from our court house roof
is getting a little ragged.
It’s torn and tattered
by the storms its faced
and probably needs
to be replaced.
But the citizens here
are a stubborn race.
We hold tight to our traditions.
One old codger snarled to me,
“That flag ain’t ready to retire!
Let it fly there through
another winter or two.
Let its fading colors inspire.
Then, maybe, our town will all decide
to haul her down and replace her.
And when we raise a new
red, white and blue,
on some stormy November day.
we’ll sing the anthem
with our off key band
and we’ll all remember
how, still, united we stand”
