659 Take the good with the hair, 2-22-17 (go to 580 for key word search)

…like that kitten my wife, Nancy,
found on the back porch
one freezing winter night
when the moon and stars
sparkled on the icicles
hanging from the roof.
A feisty tiger
who chases cloth birds
and cat-nipped mice,
scratching the oak paneled floor.
Who answers Nancy’s questions
with polite mews and meows.
She purrs when she’s curled
on Nancy’s lap as they doze
in the afternoon sun.
Her sound calms the soul.
My heart beat slows
as I observe from
a far, distant corner of the room.
For Sparkle makes my eyes itch.
Her fur starts me sneezing.
I can’t sit on the couch
for her shed dander rising
in a cloud from the fabric
irritates me in so many ways.

I love that damn cat
who I would like to pet,
but to whom I’m allergic
so, every now and then,
decide to ship her off
to the animal shelter…
but then look into
Nancy’s sparkling eyes…
and, surrendering,
repent.
