663 Grandpa talks with elves! 3-03-17

Dear Miss O’Malley.
I know you always say
WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT.
but I’m only 3d grade.
That doesn’t give me
much stuff to write about.
8 years isn’t a lot of time
to know a lot of things.
Right?
And when someone KNOWS something,
it should be, well, sure,
TRUE.

So, what do I know?

Two years ago,
I knew my Mommy and Daddy
were my Mommy and Daddy
but now Daddy lives with Mary
and she is Wendi’s Mommy
who is 13
and now, I think
Daddy loves Mary more than
he loved Mommy and
he treats Wendi like he
used to treat me
and me like a visitor
who comes every Wednesday night
and every other weekend
but not last Christmas
but next Christmas
only it’s just March!

So, what do I know?

My brother Billy,
he’s older than me,
we used to be BFFs.
We used to play Wii
and he read to me
and when I got a nightmare
I could run to his room
and climb into his bed
and he would half wake up
and ask me, “Nightmare?”
and I’d say, “Yeah.”
and he’d say, “It’s just a dream.”
and put his arm over me.
Then we’d fall asleep,
me first,
and I wouldn’t have a nightmare
for a while…
But that’s like forever ago
and now he’s 15 and
hates Wii
and now Mommy says
Billy is too old so I can’t
climb into his bed any more,
so come to her bed,
only except when Andy is there
which is more and more now
and besides, Mommy snores
so why would Andy want
to sleepover with Mommy?
I mean, I can’t sleep,
even in my own room with
the door mostly shut
when Mommy snores
and Andy snores too,
or, at least, like, moans at night
and who can sleep with all that
moaning and snoring !!!???
But, at least, since I can’t sleep
I don’t have nightmares much any more
unless it’s Wednesday night
or every other weekend
and, anyway, Daddy and Mary
sleep too deep to hear me
but Wendi yells at me from her room
next door too me
too wake me up
before the nightmare gets to scary.
So I stay awake and play with my tablet.

So, what do I know?

Grand-papa Charlie,
Grandma’s new husband
who is older than her
but he’s not Mommy’s Daddy,
he died when I was to young to remember,
when they come over to sit
with Billy and me when
Mommy goes out on a Andy-date
and Billy goes over to his BFF Zac’s house,
Papa Charlie tells me stories.
One time he told me
he talks to elves
when he walks in the woods
behind his and Grandma’s house!
I thought,
“Well, I know that’s true.
Papa Charlie told me it was.

So, that’s what I’m writing about.

Papa Charlie talks to Elves!!!!
When he walks in the woods behind his house!!

He walks with Buddy,
his old dog.
He’s a Golden Retriever.
He likes to walk with Papa,
but he’s getting old now so Papa
thinks not for to much longer.
He is a very kissy dog with a grey nose.
I love Buddy.
He watches over me.
So Buddy and Papa Charlie
walk in the woods and talk
to each other
and to the
elves.

That is what I know about.
So I wrote this for you.

I hope you like my composition.

Next week I’ll write about
the first time Papa Charlie
took me into the woods with
him and Buddy.
And how I met Victoria.
She is a very frightened but friendly elf,
after a while.
Papa Charlie said maybe I could tell Victoria
about my nightmares
and maybe she could make them stop.
So, sometimes, in the woods,
sitting on an old log
with Papa and Buddy and Victoria,
(who I really can’t see
but Papa and Buddy can
and they talk to her)
I talk to her too and I
haven’t had a nightmare for months!

This isn’t ALL I know about.

Maybe I will write about what
I told Victoria.

Maybe the week after next.

Sincerely,
Genny,
(Your favorite 3d grade student!)
