I grow fonder of living
as I grow older.
The grinding of teeth
over a miss-perceived slight,
the awful vicissitude
of some angry fight,
“the slings and arrows…”,
mellow into occasional
moans as I push my body
up from my desk
or the groans of just
another damn flight of stairs.
And my Lady and I can do
whatever we please,
pretty much…
Or, nothing at all.

It’s the simplicity of the age.

I offer a hint to those of you
just starting out:
build only small, single-story dreams.
Jacobs Ladder will suffice
for any resurrection,
if you are,
to attend.
