730 Acclaim At Curtain Call 12-12-17 (use the word search box)

Cheers!
to all
the supporting roles
after the final scene:

Lavinia, in her wacky distraction
might have tossed the lot!
So, thanks to the Writer
for keeping her at her spot,
up stage right,
for two short beats
prior to her exit,
to answer her sister-in-law,
Susan’s,
question
(asked from the chair at the desk, center stage),
“What is all this scrap paper?”

And, by the way,
thanks to Austin,
who,
though absent most of the play
and from that final scene,
had sense enough to marry Susan
early in the Second Act.

And, of course, laud to Susan herself
for realizing what a treasure chest
she’d uncovered within the heroine
and in her desk
and what a profusion of diamond miracles
she’d fondled,
from their first scenes start,
in her hands,
and in her heart.

Imagine the dread,
the horror in heaven
had that Irish maid,
innocent of literacy and of critique,
rolled the paper into the stove
where her mistress had schooled her
in the culinary of ginger bread,
merely to kindle the cooking fire,
rather than the fortunate Susan’s recognition
of the flame within,
granting catharsis to us,
still in our seats,
even now,
long after the lights have gone down
on all of them,
save
Emily.
