875 We’re having a moment here! 12-29-19

let the moments
between the moments,

Between a gentle caress,
right before the kick-off
of a Steeler – Patriot game.

Between a tearful episode
and the pressing need for
pb and j or pop-corn
to eat during episode 4, season 5
of the Vikings…

Between the heart-breaking
last pages
of your thrice-read-favorite-novel
and the frantic e-mail
you just have to answer
about some next weekends party
to which you were ordered to BYO booze
and you hoped Jenna,
but not Gena
was coming.

The machine-gun-pace-hours-of-our-days
wrinkle the face,
splinter our souls.

The stain-glass-mind,
created to rainbow its chromatic light
unto all the world,
gently, slowly, thoughtfully,
for most,
a rubble of shards.
The cathedral has crumbled.

For your own sake,
my brother,
my sister,

If you are too troubled
to chose
to linger,

start with the rudiments:

How do you chew?
Do you savor or swallow whole?
Do you sip or guzzle?

Take an hour, a year,
to re-live the wonder
that last moment
gave you.

Consider the dandelion
after you drink its wine.

When you
– feel –
cherish that feeling
and the memory of it
from just a moment ago.
Ask for more!
Be a glutton!

Smash the clock!
Shred the calendar!
“Better late than nothing!”
Count the cracks in the concrete,
the pebbles on the path.

Cherish the moments
between the moments…

and remember.
